Surveyors play a valuable role in protecting the public. But it isn't every day that surveyors get a chance to save lives. Carl Loando and Christopher Newman, two surveyors in Hawaii, risked their lives on April 27 to rescue an elderly couple from a terrible house fire. A reader alerted me to this story in the Honolulu Star Advisor:
Fire engulfs home, critically injures couple in their 80s
Here's another story on the incident that includes a video clip:
Woman pulled from inferno
"We just happened to be in the right place and time to help someone in need," Loando told me in an e-mail. "Mrs. Choy is still in intensive care from injuries recived that day. Mr. Choy and myself were both checked for smoke inhalation and released from the hospital hours later."
A related editorial in the Honolulu Star Advisor highlights Loando's role in the incident. I have to agree with that writer - Loando is a hero.
