Does anyone know of any resources I can draw from in order to gain some knowledge on setting control for Brige layout. I am relatively new to bridge construction. I have spent the last 13 years of my surveying career doing large closed loop surveys for large farm tracts, and proposed houseing developments, bridge construction is a new animal for me. The job I am starting soon is a small one, consisting of only two bridge abutments, with a 40' span between them. There is existing control, 4 points set by others, all of which are in the road except for one. The control is set along the roadway all within 30 to 40 feet offset from the baseline left or right. I am at a loss as far as how I should proceed as far as setting the control for the footings, abutment walls, and eventually the bearing lines for the girders. Its such a small job, such a tight area as far as keeping points from being destroyed during excavation, it almost seems harder to set control for a job like this than a larger one. The other problem is that the job must be done in three stages in order to keep two lanes of traffic open at all times. the left side of the bridge is ther first stage, then the right, and finally the middle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
