Software question

Posted by Tommy Young on May 10, 2011 1:52 pm

I've got a question about software.  I would like to find something cheap that will plot an asci file.  I don't need any cogo functions.  All I want to do is plot a point list.  The reason I do this is we have a computer where all of our field crews upload and download data.  It would be handy if they could make their own point plots without interrupting the rest of us.  Does such a thing exist?

I guess if it were me I'd try to dig up an older version of LDD with the survey package that you might have laying around.  2i or 3 will run just fine on a Win 7 box running xp mode, or obviously on an older xp machine.

Tommy , had you thought about printing a point plot as a pdf  and downloading it on to the crews computer?

For the price..which is zero dollars...check out Copan for Windows from a solid Canadian Geomatics firm: www.underhill.ca I'll wager it'll do what Tommy needs done - and quite a bit more -quite nicely.

Topcon Link will do it and it is a free software on Topcon's website - www.topconpositioning.com.  They will make you register to download the file.  It is a little tricky to get it to plot out the points - you must first convert the asci format to a topcon tsj file.  Then it will work.

RADU, the idea was for them to do it themselves without getting me involved.  If I am going to create a PDF of the file, I'd be just as well off to go ahead and print it..
