Professional Surveyor requirements

Posted by anasmalkawi on Jun 5, 2011 11:05 am

Hello everyone,

I have reviewed the NCEES requirements for PS license, however, I'm still not clear about the education requirements. I understand that the engineering degree must be ABET certified.

Would a BS in Geography with GIS emphasis combined with 10 years experience as a Geodetic Surveyor satisfy the requirements?

Thanks for your help in advance.

You need to research state specific requirements for the state in which you wish to become licensed.

What were the course requirements in geography.

PA allows a BS Civil Engineer to qualify with 10 surveying credits. If you have at least that much surveying they may accept the Geography BS as equivalent.

However they want to see 5 years of boundary line experience for the PS. What you have should get you a chance for the FS (LSIT).

What college, when and was it ABET certified?

What is the start date of your experience?

On a side note, Penn State is has a Master of Science in GIS that can be obtained 100% on line.

Give us some more of your info.

Your best source of information on this topic is the VA Board.

We could debate what they think / want all day long but it means little.  Opinions about what the VA Board wants unimportant unless and until they come from the VA Board.

Try this link then dig for what you need.

Best of luck.
