Iron pipes/rebar

Posted by bill survey on Jul 22, 2011 9:07 am

Can you all tell me where I should find some iron pipe or rebar?  I have googled rebar, rebar suppliers, etc, but havent had any luck.  Bernsten says their caps fit over standard "water pipe" so does that mean a plumbing supply store might have it?  WOuld they possibly cut it too?  I am just curious if there is some keyword I could search online or find in the yellow pages.  I live in Raleigh, NC if any one out there is close by and knows of someone in the area.

The local survey supply stores dont always have anything and usually it is over priced and small in diameter.

Home Depot sells half inch rebar in 20 foot lengths.

At least they do around here.

I get my rebar from a company called "Westside Concrete Accessories", so look for concrete suppliers in your area. Such places will saw or cut them to the length you want. If you want sawed off ends be sure to ask for it that way, it will cost a bit more, but I think it is worth it. The ends of cut off rebar will be deformed a bit and sometimes the makes it hard to get he cap on it.

Or, as suggested, you can buy it your favorite big box Home Supply store and saw it off yourself. They have pipe in the plumbing department. and will cut it for a fee. I'm sure you could find a plumber who would cut off a large batch of it.

Thanks for the help.  I did find that the local plumbing supply stores have iron pipe in 21' lengths, but most of them dont cut it.  I will look into concrete suppliers and steel fabricators.

Also, the rebar I get is already cut and bundled in stacks of 25....18" long, 1/2" or 5/8"....price depends on the price of steel at that moment.....

The CHEAPEST way is to find a scap metal guy and tell him what you need. he will be the cheapest buy far. I pay about $0.75 a peice for 3/4 and 5/8 mixed... what ever he finds... and he cuts them for me too

Call a steel distributor or fabricator.
