NEW EQUIPMENT BACK TO WHAT... Javad..

Posted by Virginia Beck on Sep 21, 2011 7:01 pm

I'm thrilled with my decision. I have been using a new Javad Triumph1 and SurvCE from Carlson this year.

I bit the bullet  by abandoning TDS and so did what no one wants to do,  I am learning a new data collector. I still have
a ways to go, but I'm happy because everything I look for is there. I am finding improvements over what I used before, too.

The Javad is easy, with lots of channels, ready for anything. I'm happy with green, it looks good with my green
vest. It feels good on the rod and with all the satellites that come in I can survey in all sorts of places.

I'm wondering what all of you are thinking and doing to get into shape.... to get the new satellites etc.

Good luck..

Glad you found a setup that works for you.

I am one of those reluctant to switch from TDS'ers. Carlson looks like the best option from where I stand as well.

"all the satellites that come in I can survey in all sorts of places"

BEWARE of the comfort of a bunch of satellites in the box ...if you are amazed at where you are getting fixed solutions with ANY gps receiver you should prove those locations with another observation...at a later time, and different satellites

i have personally pushed the limits of overhead cover with a few brands of GNSS receivers...and every time I bragged about getting "fixed in the woods" i would get burned with a randomly bogus initialization...

Don't let a sales rep tell you otherwise....GPS is NOT for the woods!

There was an article this past year in one of the mags that showed guys grinning in the woods with their GPS in hand talking about how easy doing "boundary" was with it...

sooner or later this will burn anyone trusting these things...

my rule of thumb now is if i look up and think "this may be a tough spot" or "GPS should not work here"....I do not trust it, unless I can prove it later with a repeat observation.

just some friendly advice to combat the sales reps

good luck

Thanks for the post, I was a user of Javad in the early years and then I was convinced to purchase Leica for my GPS needs. Worst equipment choice I have ever made. I plan on looking at Javad as soon as I can get rid of the Leica equip.
