Carlson GPS?

Posted by Old_Maps on Sep 23, 2011 9:33 pm

Does anyone have experience with the GPS setup being advertised as "Carlson Surveyor and GPS"? We are running Leica 1200's and are in need of 3 other units and I'm wondering about the quality of the Carlson stuff and it's compatibility with the Leica equipment and with Leica's Smartnet.

Maps,

I own one and use it daily.  Give me a call at (nine-one-nine) 335-3444 and I'd be happy to discuss it in more detail and answer any questions.

Thanks,

In the June 2011 issue of POB I did a review of the Carlson GPS.

I enjoyed using the unit and found no difference between the Carlson GPS and my Sokkia GPS.   I did not check compatibility between Leica etc but since it just produces numbers and files I can't imagine any problem.  There was no problem importing into my CAD drawings.

I use a Lecia TCR 1105 as my usual instrument and Carlson Survey 2008 as my CAD program.  I reduce through OPUS fro static work but rarely need to do it.

I'm sure that your dealer would allow a breuif trial run with the equipment so check with them!

Good Luck,
Don

If you're running TPS1200s, why not look into the Leica GS-12 Rovers for the Smart Rover option.
