Trimble 5600 Robotic Total Station

Posted by gsnyder on Jan 25, 2012 11:32 am

Does anyone know of a brand of an external battery charger (preferably "gel pack") that would have a long life? We are using a Trimble 5600 Robotic Total Station. We have been using an external car charger, but it has a shorter battery life in the winter than we would like. I have heard the gel packs have longer battery life. It needs to have a circular plug opening on the battery itself for the adapter to the total station. Thanks.

I don't know of any gel pack type of batteries specifically for the 5600. However for my 5600, I went with a rather expensive but versatile cable from Western States Cabling. I also had my undercarrage battery re-celled at Primecell. Both have performed well. Western States Cabling is American owned and the products are made in America though the parts may be from overseas. But the quality is satisfactory for me.

I also am concidering the Ebay item mentioned by NYC. Looks pretty decent, but my cable allows direct connect to any motorsport battery. Just have to be careful of the positive and negative leads.

It wouldn't be hard to wire up a plug-in type of connector though....®

Speaking of 5600 batteries... Does anyone have a slick way to test the 5600 3.8Ag brick battery  to determine if it is good or bad?

Thanks

We chose:
DSR Schumacher PSJ-1812 1800 Peak Amps Battery Booster.
See how it goes.

Ours still work good; they just don't have the battery life in cold weather that is as good in an external battery. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the posts.
