Win7, Acad14, and C&G

Posted by DKeithKilby on Sep 26, 2010 1:14 pm

Any suggestions on how to overcome an environment variable issue? I have gotten Acad14 to run inside Windows 7 but have not been able to get C&G to run inside Acad under Win7: When I try loading C&G, I am getting the following message:

Environment variable "CGSURVEY_ROOT" not set.

Thanks,
Keith Kilby

It might work if you install anywhere except C:\Program Files
In WIN 7 (And Vista) after a program install it is no longer
allowed to write to C:\Program Files\Install Path

I've got several old programs working by creating C:\Programs and installing there.

Give me a call tomorrow (Monday) afternoon.  I've been in Conway SC teaching and didn't see the post until just now.  I'll look through some of my old notes and see if I can find anything that might help.

Swim4life,
Good suggestion. I actually installed it directly under the C:\  just in case it had trouble finding it but to no avail.

Larry,
Thanks for the input and the conversation.

Have you tried Right Clicking on the Icon,
Pick Troubleshoot Compatibility
then choose run in XP Mode

or

Install virtual XP
And install you programs there.

My only suggestion would be to:
  1. right-click on your Computer icon which should be located on your Desktop and choose Properties
  2. locate the Advanced System Settings option which should be on the left side of the System dialog box
  3. click on the Environment Variables button found on the Advanced tab of your System Properties dialog box
  4. if you are the only user of the software on your computer, click the New button under User Variables...  If other people will access the software on your computer, click the New button under System Variables...
  5. The Variable name: should be CGSURVEY_ROOT
  6. The Variable value: should be the installation path you've identified for C&G (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\CGSoftware)
You may need to reboot your computer for the change to take effect. If this doesn't work, it might be time to consider a software upgrade.
