HP 750 plotter w/ XP

Posted by Dave Laferriere on Feb 29, 2012 2:50 pm

Hi all. I had the similar problem years back. I bought a HP 750C plus for my house. I down loaded the driver from the internet. When I run add printer it does not use the downloaded driver. My computer recognizes the plotter when I plug it in, but will not even print test page. Back with my HP 450C someone sent me the disk and that worked. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave

Dave, I had the same problem with Windows 64-bit. I got the 750C working with the drivers for the HP 1050 plotter. There were some minor quirks, but nothing you can't work around.

I had to feed my current Windows 7 32bit installation the XP/Vista driver version for our old HP 5000.  Works decent.

Our original HP DesignJet plotter was orphaned under Windows XP back in the day.  We didn't notice it initially because we had dual installs of AutoCAD 14 and 2000i.  Plotting from v14 used its own AutoCAD drivers internally and we never noticed the loss of drivers until we tried plotting with 2000i which used Windows system drivers.  I thought the unit was a HP 600 mono, but it was the original DesignJet.  I found and bought some third party driver which rasterized the vector graphics, but we ended up trashing it for an OCE.

I'd try Mike's trick with the 1050 drivers.

Try WinLINE Drivers. I made a pretty thorough search for drivers and this is the only ones that I could find and this is the only way I could get my 450C to work with Windows 7.  They are pricey, but it has drivers for anything that you normally would need. You can download a trial version to check to make sure that they will work with your system before deciding to purchase the product..

WinLine was the driver I was trying to think of.  Do try the demo, you should get a background watermark.  We did purchase the full version but did note some "rasterizing" (is that a word?) of the linework and ended up moving on to an OCE.  $199 isn't so bad for one machine until you factor in having to buy it for multiple additional seats of CAD users (they do have volume pricing).  Our upgrade was also driven by the loss of support for our old Xerox engineering copier, so the OCE fit both bills and offered scanning.
