NCEES Records Program

Posted by Yeoanny on Sep 14, 2010 6:22 pm

Has anyone out there completed this process and found it useful?  I am in the process of researching the attainment of surveying licenses in adjacent metes and bounds states and was wondering if I should apply to individual jurisdictions or go through NCEES.  Thanks in advance for the responses...

I completed mine last year and have completed my first annual renewal form today. I think it's a real advanatage to have the record. It serves as a record, of course, to your education, experience and references so you do not have to hunt those parties down each time you feel the urge to sit for a exam. I know some states require a record, better check on that. I haven't needed to transmit my record to another state, but will, as I am in the process of starting to prepare for my PE exam hopefully in April 2011. When that is complete I will try to start getting states that border Tennessee. Each renewal year you have to update your record for the past 12 months and turn in a new RLS/PLS reference. Pretty straightforward and easy.

Good luck,
MD

I've started it but I haven't finished it yet.  I think it's a useful tool if you are going to get licensed in multiple states just for the reasons stated above.  Some states are requiring it too.

It is not cost effective.

They charge you to create the record, maintain the record, and to submit the record to each state. IT IS A WIN FOR NCEES, and a loss for you.

I have one and I think its great, but only if you're interested in getting licensed in other states.  The annual fee is $25... I blow that each month on soft drinks at the gas station.

I looked into it, when I got me 2nd LS but unless your going for multiple LS's over a short period of time, I'd say it's not worth it. If a state accepts it, check to see if they will accept the same stuff your provided to your "current state, already on file". IE reference letters, transcripts. ect.

I received my NCEES Certification back in 2002.  Since then many of the PLS's that could verify my experience have passed away.  Having the NCEES packet allows the experience verification letter they wrote for me before they died carry on.

It also makes applying for another licenses in most states a breeze.
